Crooky Testdrives Six Cars - VW City Golf Wins
By crooky | May 22, 2008
This is a short update for those of you who have been following my quest for a suitable car for my consulting business. Around 9pm this evening, after a second drive of the Golf and the Fit, I decided on the Golf.
A few of things cinched it for me:
1. The Golf isn’t just a little more fun to drive than the Fit, it’s a LOT more fun to drive than the Fit.
2. I was overly paranoid about my ability to still fit behind the wheel of the Golf with the back seat folded down. There is plenty of room for me and a trunk full of cargo.
3. The seats are way more comfortable than the Fit. No contest.
I didn’t go home with the car tonight. They need to find me one with the trim package I want and in the colour I want but here’s what I’m getting:
- 2008 Volkswagen City Golf in Tornado Red
- Automatic Triptronic Transmission
- Comfort Package (including mags, a factory alarm, power everything, cruise control and a few other things I’m forgetting at the moment)
- Side-curtain airbags
- All of this for $0 down and ~$270/month for 48 months
It’s an awesome car. The only real tradeoffs:
- slightly more expensive on lease than the Honda but Honda won’t do 48 month leases - only 60 month leases
- gas mileage isn’t quite as good as the Fit but it’s still a hell of a lot better than the Magnum
I’m excited about this car and I know it was the best out of the six I reviewed. My next challenge will be to design and procure some suitable vehicle graphics. I’ll keep you all posted!
