Caroline Hickton

I’ve known Caroline since 1997 from the Communications undergrad program at Simon Fraser University. We have many mutual friends and I consider Caroline to be my best friend. I e-mailed Caroline on August 6, 2008 and asked her the following questions. Her responses are listed below my questions:

1. Where did you grow up?

Vancouver, BC - Yes, born and raised in this beautiful city. A rarity, I know.

2. What did you want to be when you were a kid?

When I grow up I want to be a producer of movies or a tv show.

3. How would you describe to someone like me what you do for a living?

As the communications manager for a technology company, I do internal communications, corporate communications, public relations, and a variety of marketing activities.

4. How would you describe what you do to someone who has no idea what your industry is about?

Describing what I do is ambiguous, so I’ll use examples. As the communications manager for a technology company, I am responsible for our internal newsletter for staff, pitching stories to the media to get press for our company, website content (on a weekly basis), podcasts (audio recordings of me interviewing experts in our field), case studies with our clients, monthly webinars, award submissions, client communications, and of course, the typical “other tasks as required”.
