I can’t remember exactly how I met Tony - I think I cold-called him about something last year and we hit it off. Tony and I have both worked in the publishing industry in the past so we’ve got that in common and we’re both extremely good looking, self-employed consultants out on the town, drumming up business.

I e-mailed Tony on August 6, 2008 and asked him the following questions. His responses are listed below my questions:

1. Where did you grow up?

Born in Holland, grew up in Southwestern Ontario, mostly around Chatham, Ont. Kicked around Europe for a while. Became a journalist, went to various universities, made my way to BC.

2. What did you want to be when you were a kid?

An explorer and artist.

3. How would you describe to someone like me what you do for a living?

I’m a management consultant who specializes in thinking (creativity, decision making, planning) — primarily by gathering, synthesizing and articulating information.

4. How would you describe what you do to someone who has no idea what your industry is about?

Interesting because no one seems to know what I do. I tell them I help business people gather and analyse information so they can make better decisions. (I’m still working on it)
